  • Can I adjust myself?
Typically, when someone tries to adjust themselves or by having a friend twist and turn their neck or back may cause a pop, but oftentimes it is non-specific affecting the vertebra above or below, but not the one needing to be adjusted. That is why you have the urge to pop it again an hour or so later. Not to mention possible injury to yourself. When there is a report of a spinal injury due to a spinal adjustment it is from these types of cases and not from a Doctor of Chiropractic’s office.
  • Do adjustments hurt?
A gentle, controlled amount of force (pressure) to your joints is applied. You will not feel pain during a chiropractic adjustment. A cavitation or popping noise is a normal phenomenon that may be heard when nitrogenous gas suddenly leaves your joints much like an arrow being pulled off a mirror or glass pane. While this pop may sound painful, it doesn't feel painful. Sometimes the joint pops and other times it slides making no sound at all.
  • Why do adjustments sometimes make a popping sound?
The popping sound you may hear during an adjustment is often caused by gas escaping from the joint capsule as it moves. It's similar to the sound your knuckles make when you crack them.
  • Does chiropractic treatment require a referral from a medical doctor?
Chiropractors do not need a referral from a medical doctor. In Oklahoma, Chiropractors have primary care provider status and do not require a referral from a medical doctor.
  • Is chiropractic treatment appropriate for children?
Infants and children respond very well to chiropractic treatment. Injuries to the spinal column can begin as early as the birth process itself. Malaise, failure to thrive, colic, ear infections and learning disabilities are just some of the things that children respond very well to chiropractic care.
  • What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a treatment where a licensed chiropractor uses their hands or special instruments to adjust joints in your body. This treatment is also called a spinal or extra-spinal (hands, shoulders, elbow, knees, feet) adjustment. A chiropractic adjustment can help reduce pain produced by toxins, reduce inflammation, reduce nerve root pressure, and improve your body’s proper alignment and how your body functions physically.
  • What does a chiropractic adjustment treat/manage?
Each person who seeks a chiropractic adjustment has a unique reason for their appointment, but all chiropractic adjustments treat your musculoskeletal system. Some people choose to have a chiropractic adjustment if they have the following conditions: Arthritis. Frequent headaches. Healing after an accident or whiplash. Joint pain and dysfunction. Lower back pain. Neck pain. Sciatica. Stiff muscles or muscle aches. Hand, Foot, Shoulder and Knee pain
  • Can I see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?
Yes, absolutely. The most common benefit of chiropractic care is relief from pregnancy-related aches and pains. About half of all pregnant people suffer from lower back pain and a change of load distribution within the lumbar spine. This change places more stress on the lower back. Chiropractors help by performing adjustments that decrease the pressure in the low back joints, pelvis and soft tissue helping with an easier delivery. The American Pregnancy Association says that seeing your chiropractor during pregnancy can help you avoid a misaligned spine, pelvic protrusion, and other structural issues caused by the protruding belly and the weight changes of pregnancy.
  • How long will I need chiropractic care?
Let’s be honest, when taking care of ourselves it is never a one-day fix. Health improvement decisions to take time. When you go to the gym to get in shape or lose weight you work hard to see results over a period of time. Right? It just makes sense! Once you get in shape or lose weight you don’t want to lose the gains you’ve made. Chiropractic works the same way. One treatment might make you feel better but did it correct the underlying problem? So the question of if you start going to the Chiropractor do you have to keep going forever? Not necessarily. but, if you look at your health as an investment then it is worth it as it. Avoiding costly expenses such as lost work, early retirement, premature spinal degeneration and medical intervention. Typically, pain is gone within just a few days. However, joint degeneration and the arthritic process can manifest without the presence of pain. Thomas Edison once said: “The doctor of the future will give no medication but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause & prevention of disease.”
  • Are adjustments safe?
Yes, chiropractic adjustments are safe. A 2017 review of 250 articles looked at serious adverse events and benign events associated with chiropractic care. Based on the evidence the researchers reviewed, serious adverse events accounted for one out of every two million spinal manipulations compared to 13 per 10,000 medically treated patients.
